With vineyards first planted in 1970, Redi and Roberto Quai drew on their European heritage to establish this scenic country estate. Roberto and his wife, Lisa, opened the doors of the winery in 1990 and welcome you to experience the flavours and bounty of Lake Erie's pastoral north shore.
At Quai du Vin Estate Winery (pronounced "K dew vań"), the focus is the established winemaking and retailing operation that feature and compliment the vineyard and the scenic location. Marketing and distribution are direct from our farm gate to your door, anywhere in Canada. Quai du Vin produces over 90,000 bottles per year and has celebrated its "Millionth Bottle" in July, 2002. My goal at Quai du Vin is rather straightforward: I want to craft wines that people enjoy drinking, within the boundaries of the Ontario wine industry, and within the breadth of my own philosophies on what makes a great wine.
My own philosophy on winemaking stems from a belief that wines should play a supporting role in the experiences of your life: they should compliment your favourite meals, they should help bring friends together, and a great wine accentuates that romantic evening you've been planning!
Achieving that goal as a winemaker means using only the highest quality of grapes from our vineyards, using a combination of Old World and New World (and sometimes unconventional) techniques in production, and as always, leaving plenty of time for wines to evolve naturally- as they are meant to.
It is an exciting time in the Ontario wine industry as we are learning more every vintage about the nuances of our growing sites, and which grapes marry best with our terroir. My own philosophy is to be innovative with new vines, grapes and blends while only delivering final wines that will represent a long term commitment to our house-style.
I am proud of the range of wines we produce and the value that we are able to deliver to our customers. When people come in, try our wines, and smile; I know that I've done my job!
